Crystal Jardine

I was first introduced to yoga in 2004 when, for lack of anything better to do, I agreed to try out a Bikram class with a friend.  My plan was to take advantage of the “first class is free” policy  and then call it a day.  But, laying in that first savasana, I knew I had been exposed to something wonderful; something powerful and energizing and unexplainable and...wonderful.  I wanted more.

I became an avid practitioner of hot yoga, and then branched out into other forms just trying to take it all in.  When the time was right, I completed teacher training in the ashtanga style, going more in depth with asanas, anatomy, and philosophy.  Through yoga, I found the courage to let go of the illusion of security, and make changes in my life.  As such, I left my career in the oil industry, and am currently a full-time Bachelor of Arts student.  “When the student is ready, the master appears.”

Like life, yoga is so complex but yet so simple.  For me, it is a process of peeling back the layers and the labels as part of the life-long journey of getting to know my authentic self.  Who was I before judgements and expectations and social norms started shaping me?  Yoga teaches me to slow down, to surrender, to let go, to breathe, to just be.

My goal as an instructor is not only to assist with asanas, but also to encourage students to make the connection between the mat and the world.  Being aware of how you approach each posture will reveal how you really approach life, as opposed to how you think you approach life.  I believe yoga is available to everybody who is ready to open their mind and their heart.  As long as we have our breath anything is possible.  Everyday is new, and it’s never too late to change.
