Frequently Asked Questions

What if I’m not flexible?
This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to a yoga class. Yoga is not about how flexible you are, but about strengthening your body and spine in all directions. All that matters is that you try the right way, go to your personal "edge" and you will get 100% of the benefit!

Is it a cardiovascular workout and can I lose weight?
No matter what your level of fitness is, you will find Hot Yoga very challenging. Each posture combines flexibility, strength and balance to work your whole body from your bones to your skin. With persistence, patience and dedication, you can lose inches and develop muscle tone and strength that might never come from other forms of exercise.

What should I bring and wear to the class?
You will need a yoga mat, bottle of water, and a towel for your mat. If you plan on showering after class bring another towel. Towels, water bottles and mats are all available for rental or purchase.

Men typically wear shorts and a light t-shirt or just shorts. Women wear anything from longer exercise pants to shorts and a light top. Dress like your going to a tropical climate and plan on sweating.

Why is the room heated?
The room is heated to prevent injury, warm the muscles, and allow for a deeper release within the body. Sweat is good! Toxins and poisons are flushed out of your body through each practice. Fresh air is always circulating and humidity is raised for ideal "hot" yoga conditioning. The heat will soon become your friend and in short time feels almost 'invisible'.

Which class type should I try first?
Although both classes are suited for everyone, the Traditional Hot Yoga is a better introduction to Hot Yoga.

How should I prepare for my class?
Drink lots of water during the day and try not to eat a big meal before coming. Its just like any form of exercise, come hydrated and don’t have a full stomach.

What should I expect my first class?
Classes are open to all levels. Hot Yoga on 17th is an eco friendly studio that greets all practitioners with a sense of community, diversity and integrity. We encourage you to pace yourself and have fun. The rewards of hot yoga happen just by "showing up" and staying in the heated room.

How often should I practice hot yoga?
If you come 1-2 times a week, we promise you'll feel good. At 3-4 times a week, a new awareness develops and the physical, mental and spiritual changes happen more rapidly. As yoga author Baron Bapiste says," For life-changing results practice 5-6 times a week." Come whenever you can.
